The formats regular visitors to Schiphol come back for

A first visit and a fifth visit ask different things of this list. The first time, the real question is what an unfamiliar room will allow. By the fifth you know the room, you probably know which name you want to ask for, and the question has narrowed to which format fits this particular week.

Massage at Schiphol on a working week

Office weeks at Schiphol-Oost and Schiphol-Rijk tend to end in the same kind of room: a desk nobody sits at, a window onto a car park or a taxiway, a bed made tight enough to bounce a coin on. Oil work suits that room without any negotiation. Sensual massage and erotic oil massage need warm air, a bed and the towels she carries in, and neither leaves anything behind for the housekeeping trolley to notice in the morning.

Gel is a separate conversation. Nuru wants a shower you are willing to stand in afterwards and a little more time than sixty minutes gives it, so the regulars who like it tend to book it before a free morning rather than before a nine o'clock meeting. Soapy lives in the bathroom and depends on what that bathroom turns out to be; after one stay in a given building you will know whether it passes.

Tantra rewards coming back to it. Guests who try it once often say the first session went on learning the pace, and the second was where the pace finally carried them. At ninety minutes it begins to make sense.

When there are two of you, or two of them

Crews sometimes travel in pairs, and commuters sometimes bring a partner out for the last night of the week. A couples booking with one therapist between you costs 360 euros an hour; with a therapist each it is 720. Two therapists on one guest is 360 an hour between them, the format called four hand massage, and it gets booked as a reward at the end of a long rotation far more often than as a habit.

The overnight, for the final night of a trip

Eight hours as one block, 1,250 euros for a single guest. Visitors who take it from the business district usually place it on their last night, when no alarm needs setting and the flight out leaves in the afternoon. Half goes ahead once it is agreed, exactly as it does for every booking at Schiphol.

Choosing without overthinking it

A flat Tuesday. Sixty or ninety minutes of sensual work, and sleep straight after.

A restless Wednesday. Tantra, ninety minutes or longer.

A Thursday with nothing before noon. Nuru or body to body, with time left for the shower.

The last night out there. Three hours, or the overnight.
